A CCU is staffed around the clock by nurses, technicians, and physicians specially trained to take care of people with serious cardiac conditions.

A coronary care unit (CCU) or cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) is a hospital ward specialized in the care of patients with heart attacks, unstable angina, cardiac dysrhythmia and (in practice) various other cardiac conditions that require continuous monitoring and treatment.

While the amount of time a person will stay in a CCU can vary from less than a day to several weeks, the average stay in a CCU is five days.
